The Quarterly Letter | Summer 2026 | Glimpse Publishing

The Quarterly Letter

Summer 2026

July · August · September

Spring is the season of beginnings.
Summer is when the things you planted quietly arrive.

A Letter from Robert

(and sometimes, Laurie)

In the spring letter, I wrote about things becoming visible. This season, they've done something better than that. They've arrived.

The trilogy we've been carrying for years—Where the Dirge Plays—is complete, and all three books are out in the world. Second Half Compass, which we spent months building quietly, has opened its doors. And in August, we release the book that means more to me than anything we've published: a novel called The Magic, written as a retirement gift for Laurie.

I keep noticing that the things we make for one person are the things that end up traveling farthest. The Cake Doctor began as a birthday gift and became our best-selling novel—it's now been reviewed by more than fifty readers. The Magic began the same way: one story, for one person, about the thing she loves. We'll see where it goes. But it's already done the only job it was ever asked to do.

Laurie remains at the center of all of it—editing, steadying, and occasionally reminding me that not everything needs to launch in the same month. She's usually right. We do it anyway.

— Robert
(with Laurie, always)

The Glimpse Moment

A Seasonal Reflection

Summer doesn't hurry, and it doesn't hold back. It simply gives what it has, while it has it.

There's a generosity to this season that we sometimes forget to receive. The long light. The unscheduled evening. The permission to sit outside with someone and let a conversation go wherever it wants to go. Summer keeps offering these things whether or not we accept them.

So much of a well-lived second half of life is exactly this: learning to receive what is already being offered. Not chasing the season. Just being present enough to notice it's here.

What is this season offering you, right now, that you haven't yet slowed down enough to accept?

The Book of the Summer

A Story Written for One Person

Every so often, a book comes along that a publisher has to be honest about: this one is personal.

When Laurie retired, I wanted to give her something that no one else could. She and I share a slightly ridiculous, completely wonderful hobby—Disney pin trading—and somewhere in the middle of all those trades, a story started forming. About wonder. About what we pass between us when we think we're just trading small things.

Arriving August 1

The Magic

A Novel

The Magic is a novel about pin trading—and about everything pin trading turns out to be about. Connection between strangers. The stories objects carry. The way a small kindness, passed hand to hand, can travel farther than anyone intended.

Woven through the story is The Keeper's Deck—eight cards, each carrying one of the emotional threads the book is built on:

Wonder Purpose Magic Love Joy Hope Courage Belonging

For readers who want the full experience, we've created a Founders Series—one hundred numbered copies, each accompanied by a physical pin and a card from The Keeper's Deck. A book you can hold, and a small piece of it you can trade forward.

The Magic launches August 1. It was written for one reader. We're hoping it finds a few more.

Now Complete

The Where the Dirge Plays Trilogy

Readers keep describing it the same way: a story that feels gentle while you read it, and stays with you after you're done.

The Cake Doctor continues to be our best-selling novel, and the reviews arriving each month say things we never could have said ourselves—about grandmothers' cookbooks, about recipes that carry intention, about reading the whole thing in one sitting with a box of tissues nearby. If it hasn't found you yet, it's still waiting.

What We're Bringing Forward

Two Works, Nearly Ready

Alongside the summer launches, two bodies of work are moving through their final stages—publication and audio production—and both are close to our hearts:

The Still Point Guides

A series of focused guides built on the Still Point Method—practical companions for finding steadiness in the middle of real life. Short enough to finish. Deep enough to return to.

Print & Audio Editions in Production

Second Half Compass

Our framework for navigating the second half of life with intention—anchored by The Sounding, a 50-question reflection that acts less like a test and more like a mirror. The platform opened its doors in June; its companion publications and audio editions are on the way.

Live Now · More Arriving Soon

Both will be available directly through the site, and there is already more there to discover than one letter can hold—tools, reflections, and a few quiet corners we've built for the readers who like to wander. Browse slowly. Some things find you before you find them.

In the Works

The Chronicles of Becoming

Progress Report

Our children's series—twelve children, each narrated by Button, a small notebook with a very long memory—continues to take shape. The writing is ahead of schedule: Charlie, Riley, and Mica are all complete on the page. What remains is the part that can't be rushed—the illustrations.

Charlie's collection is the template for everything that follows, which makes it both the hardest and the most important to get right. Our hope is to have Charlie in your hands before this quarter ends, with Riley and Mica following in the first half of next year—and the full twelve beyond that.

These are books for children who feel things deeply. And for the adults who love them.

The Glimpse Library

Books Where They're Needed Most

Our philanthropic vision hasn't changed, and it hasn't gone quiet: placing books in the hands of people sitting with hard questions, in the places where they wait.

Hospice

Waiting rooms & chapels

Rural

Underserved libraries

Hospital

Patient family spaces

Every book and membership purchased this year moves the Glimpse Library closer to being real and sustainable—not an occasional gesture, but a lasting structure. We're building it carefully, and we're building it to endure.

If you're affiliated with a hospice program, hospital, or rural library, we'd still love to hear from you. Your perspective will help us build this well.

What's Coming

The Rest of the Year

✦

One Quiet Invitation

On August 1, a story written for one person goes out into the world. If you've ever given something small and watched it mean more than you expected—The Magic was written for you, too.

Meet The Magic · August 1

And until then—the trilogy is waiting, and the site has more to discover than we could fit in one letter.
