A Letter from Robert
(and sometimes, Laurie)
There's something about spring that refuses to be subtle. After three months of white skies and early dark, the world starts offering evidence again—green at the edges of things, light that stays a little longer than it did yesterday. It doesn't ask for your attention. It just keeps going.
This quarter has felt like that for us at Glimpse. Quietly, steadily, things have become visible that we weren't sure we'd see this soon. The Cake Doctor—which began as a birthday gift for Laurie and was never meant for anyone else—has become our best-selling novel. More than 34 readers have left reviews averaging 4.7 stars. I still find that hard to believe. The most private thing I've written turned out to be the one that reached the most people.
We've also been working on something larger this season—a project called Second Half Compass, which represents a new direction for Glimpse: not just books, but a structured way to help people navigate the second half of life with intention. I'll share more below. It feels important in a way I want to be careful about explaining.
And through all of it, Laurie has been right here—editing, shaping, grounding me when I get ahead of myself. This press has always been two people. It always will be.
— Robert

The Glimpse Moment
A Seasonal Reflection
Spring doesn't wait for you to be ready. It simply begins.
We spend so much of winter in preparation—convincing ourselves that the conditions for change aren't quite right, that we need a little more certainty, a little more clarity, a little more of something before we begin. And then spring comes, unconcerned with all of that, and starts anyway.
What would it mean to move through the second half of your life the way spring moves through April? Not forcing anything. Not waiting either. Just becoming visible, slowly and without apology, in the direction you were always meant to go.
What has been asking to begin in you—quietly, persistently—that you haven't yet allowed yourself to answer?
Something New from Glimpse
The Work We've Been Building Toward
Over the past several months, we've been quietly developing something that sits alongside our books—something we believe in deeply. It's called Second Half Compass, and it launches this June.
It began with a simple recognition: many people reach their 50s, 60s, and beyond with more freedom than they've ever had—and less certainty about what to do with it. Retirement arrives, or approaches, and instead of feeling like arrival, it feels like standing at a trailhead without a map.
Launching June 2026
Second Half Compass
A Framework for What Comes Next
Second Half Compass is a structured reflection and planning system built around the SPICES framework—six dimensions that shape a flourishing second half of life:
At the heart of the system is The Sounding—a 50-question assessment that helps you understand where you are across all six dimensions, and where your attention belongs. It's not a personality test. It's a mirror.
Compass also includes The Values Portrait, three focused micro-assessments, and Compass AI—a reflection partner trained specifically to accompany people through this transition. Not to advise. To listen, and to ask the right questions.
We built this because the books weren't quite enough. Some transitions need more than a story. They need a structure you can move through—at your own pace, with real support.
Second Half Compass is currently in pre-launch review, and we're looking for a small group of early readers to try it out and share their experience. If you're curious—or if you know someone who might be—reach out to us directly. We'll send along a coupon and would love your feedback before the official launch.
Second Half Compass is available directly to individuals, and also through a licensing model for retirement coaches, financial planning firms, and HR teams. If you work with people navigating this transition—or if you know someone who does—we'd love to start a conversation.
Behind the Pages
The Gift That Became Something More
Last winter, we mentioned that something I'd written for Laurie's birthday—a story called The Cake Doctor—might be finding its way into the world. It has. And what has happened since has been quietly stunning.

"The most private thing I've written turned out to be the one that reached the most people."
The Cake Doctor is now our best-selling novel. Readers have described it as warm, unexpected, and quietly healing. Many have said they recognized someone they love in the pages.
That's the only thing I ever wanted from this story. If it sounds like something you'd like to give—to yourself or someone else—it's waiting for you.
From the Catalog
Books Worth a Second Look
For newer readers of this letter, a few titles from the Glimpse catalog that continue to find their audiences in unexpected ways:
The Memory of the Tail
A spiritual parable told through the eyes of a child and a community of sentient cats. Quietly profound, and unlike anything else we've published.
★★★★★ Consistently among our highest-rated titles
Every Freakin' Time
The title says it all. A book that readers keep pressing into other people's hands. Honest, funny, and hard to put down once it's started.
★★★★★ Our most-shared title by word of mouth
Chasing 30
The story of Laurie and me visiting all 30 MLB stadiums together. A baseball memoir about marriage, travel, and the things you discover when you commit to something a little ridiculous.
#1 Bestseller · Baseball Biographies & Sports Travel
Everything True Has Always Been Simple
The book that began everything. A collection of observations about ordinary life that readers return to more than once—usually at the moment they most need to.
★★★★★ Beloved by longtime Glimpse readers
The full catalog is at Glimpse Publishing House. Browse slowly—some books find you before you find them.
The Glimpse Library
Books Where They're Needed Most
From the beginning, we built something into Glimpse that we never announced loudly: a commitment to placing books in the hands of people who need them most—and who may not have the means to find them.
Hospice
Waiting rooms & chapels
Rural
Underserved libraries
Hospital
Patient family spaces
The Glimpse Library is our philanthropic vision—and building it into something real and lasting is one of the most important things we're working toward this year. Our goal is to create a structure that places books in hospice waiting rooms, rural libraries, and hospital chapels: places where someone is sitting with a hard question, and where a book that simply keeps them company, without trying to fix anything, might matter more than we'll ever know.
We're in the early stages of developing how this comes together—thinking carefully about how the growth of Second Half Compass might help fund it, and what it would look like to make placement sustainable, not just occasional. It won't happen all at once. But it will happen, and we want to do it right.
If you're affiliated with a hospice program, hospital, or rural library, we'd love to hear from you. Your perspective will help us build this well.
Coming Soon
The Chronicles of Becoming
We've been working on a children's series that began with a single character and grew into something we couldn't have anticipated. The Chronicles of Becoming follows twelve children—Charlie, Riley, Mica, Quinn, Emery, Sage, Finley, Kai, Rowan, Jordan, Skyler, and Alex—each narrated by Button, a small notebook with a very long memory.
Each volume follows one child through a specific moment of becoming: identity, belonging, resilience, grief, fear, perfectionism, envy, loneliness, big feelings, purpose, change, and courage. Not growing up, exactly—growing into. The manuscripts for Charlie, Riley, and Mica are complete. Charlie's complete collection will be the first to arrive, followed by Riley and Mica in close succession—with the full twelve to follow.
These are books for children who feel things deeply. And for the adults who love them.
