Why this matters to me

I have spent much of my life in waiting rooms. For thirty years I have sat beside my son Nicholas, who is autistic and has never spoken a word, through hearing tests, scans, invasive procedures, seizures, and a tumor scare. I know what it is to wait for answers while someone you love is behind a door you cannot open.

On November 10, 2024, it was my family’s turn to wait for me. My heart stopped. My wife Laurie and my brother-in-law Todd gave me CPR until help arrived. Then my family sat through those same uncertain hours, waiting together, but alone.

I have lost my sister, and I know that ache. Others in my family have needed care, in assisted living, in senior communities, and at home. I have seen how much it takes to give that care, and how much a single day holds for the person receiving it: loneliness, worry, memories, and the need for something to look forward to.

That is why putting books into the hands of people who need care matters so much to me. A story can give someone a little room to breathe. It can bring a laugh, stir a memory, or offer words for something they have struggled to say. It can give a caregiver and the person they love something to share.

Through Glimpse, I want to put that within reach, free, at the moments people need it most. I know what it is to sit there with empty hands. I want someone to find a book there, and feel a little less alone.

What one Project Care Package does

250 books placed on shelves, matched by Glimpse with 250 digital gifts given directly to people going through a hard time. One package is 500 gifts, free for everyone who receives one.

Quiet Miracles on a bookshelf

We have already begun. Between July 4 and September 30, we gave more than 50 books to people free of charge, placing them in community spaces and sharing them personally, one reader at a time. Our reporting system delivered updates at 30, 60, and 90 days—the same updates future sponsors will receive. Now we’re looking for partners to help us reach more people in waiting rooms, assisted living, senior communities, and at home.

The books

Over 30 books are available today, including these: stories of faith, hope, grief and love, written for people in difficult moments.
