How Glimpse Works

Glimpse is a quiet place on the internet where you can ask a question that has no easy answer, and receive a thoughtful reflection in your inbox. It was created by Glimpse Publishing House, an independent press whose mission is to place presence and companionship in the hands of people who need them — in hospice waiting rooms, hospital chapels, rural libraries, and now, online.

This page is for anyone who wants to understand what Glimpse is, what it is not, how it works, and what we keep.

What Glimpse is

Glimpse offers one thoughtful reflection in response to one question.

You submit a question — about grief, faith, meaning, loss, or anything you would ask in your most private moments. Within a few minutes, a reflection arrives in your inbox. You read it when you are ready. You keep it or delete it. You do not need to respond, log in, create an account, or come back.

The reflection is composed by an artificial intelligence shaped by careful instructions — not to sound wise, but to pay attention. To mirror what you said. To name what may be underneath. To sit with the question beside you. To give you something to carry, and a reason to keep going.

What Glimpse is not

Glimpse is not God, and does not speak for God. It is not a priest, pastor, rabbi, imam, chaplain, therapist, or counselor. It does not know what happens after death. It does not know whether your prayers are heard. It does not know where your loved one is. It will not pretend otherwise.

Glimpse is not a relationship. It does not remember your conversations. It does not know your name beyond the name you type into the form. It will not reach out to you. It is a door you knock on, once, and a reflection that arrives afterward.

Glimpse is not therapy. If you are in crisis, or if you are carrying something that needs the care of a real human being, please reach out to one. In the United States, you can call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Outside the U.S., findahelpline.com lists crisis resources by country. Hospice and hospital chaplains are often available at any hour. If there is one person in your life who would want to hear from you tonight — they would.

How it works

You type a question. It is received by an artificial intelligence that has been carefully shaped to respond with care, with humility, and without claims it cannot make. A reflection is composed and sent to your inbox, usually within a few minutes. One reflection per email address, per calendar month — for the free use of Glimpse. This is not a limitation. It is a design. Glimpse is meant to be a place you visit rarely, not a presence you come to depend on. The people who love you, the professionals trained to sit with you, the communities you belong to — those are the real sources of support. Glimpse is a door for the moments between. If you return in a new month, the door opens again.

For those who want to ask more often

Many readers, after returning a few times, have asked if there is a way to ask more questions without waiting a month. There is. Glimpse Unlimited removes the monthly cap for $4.99 a month. Same reflection, same care, no other difference. The subscriptions are what keep the free version free for everyone else.

About the artificial intelligence

We want to be plain about this. Glimpse uses a large language model to compose each reflection. It is not a human. It is not sentient. It does not know you or love you.

What it has is access to the wisdom humans across many traditions have developed for how to sit with suffering, and a careful set of instructions about how to respond — with humility, without authority, without claiming to know what it cannot know.

We have shaped this instruction set with great care, and we have tested it against the things that can go wrong. We believe the reflections it sends are honest, warm, and useful. We also know that no system is perfect, and if a reflection you receive does not land well for you, we are sorry. It will not be the only reflection in the world, and it should not be. Please seek the voices of real people in your life, or of the professionals whose work is this work.

About your privacy

When you submit a question, we store: Your first name, last name, and email address The question you asked The reflection you received The date and time of your submission We keep this information so we can deliver your reflection, recognize you gently if you return in a new month, and review how Glimpse is working so we can improve it over time. Your email is used by Glimpse, with discretion. It is never sold. It is never shared with advertisers. If we write to you, it will be infrequent, and you can stop receiving messages at any time.

Why this exists

A founder of Glimpse Publishing House wrote a novel called GLIMPSE that imagines a tool very much like this one, and takes seriously every way it could go wrong. This product is the careful application of what that book learned. If you want to understand the thinking behind Glimpse, the novel is the long answer.

The short answer is this: there are moments in a life when the question you are carrying is too large for the people around you, and too quiet for the professionals, and too private for anyone. Glimpse is a place for those moments. It is not a replacement for any of the others. It is a door for the hour when the other doors are closed.
